Loon Point is a front-row seat to one of Maine’s most iconic performances. Perched above Annabessacook Lake with sweeping 270-degree views, this island tent overlook is serenaded daily by loons — calling across the water at dawn, echoing at dusk, and occasionally laughing you to sleep. It’s a stay shaped by their rhythms, where mornings begin with mist and music and evenings end with the lake settling into quiet loon conversation.

Kent has created an amazing and beautiful experience on the island. My family and two dogs enjoyed our time exploring everything Kent has created on the island and enjoyed the peacefulness of the lake. Highly recommend if you enjoy camping and the outdoors.
We had the most fabulous weekend enjoying our time on 1BSI. We give this little slice of heaven 11 out of 10 stars. Kent and Heather were wonderful hosts - super friendly, helpful, accommodating, and they have literally thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable and easy. This island is peaceful and tranquil and we loved watching and listening to the loons (all named Loud Larry). Canoeing was beautiful on Lake Annabessacook. There isn’t much else better than campfires under the stars on a chilly night and then getting into a warm tent. We can’t wait to return for our next adventure on the island! Thank you so much Kent and Heather for sharing with us! ✌️
My stay at One Big Sustainable Island was exactly what I was hoping for and more. I live in Manhattan and my goal was to getaway for a few nights with my dog and recharge while still having the ability to do a bit of work remotely. Kent, Heather and the rest of their team anticipated my needs all while giving space to accomplish what I set out to. It was inspiring to see what they have built and continue to maintain at the level they do! Can’t wait to go back! Thank you Kent & 1BSI!
Coming from someone who’s used to lugging a tent and setting everything up and taking everything down this is a beyond luxury stay. Heather & Kent are the most attentive hosts with amazing energy. You can tell they take pride in maintaining the island and cleanliness. They make sure all their guests are comfortable and have everything they’d need. The view of the lake from the island is mind blowing and seeing the sunset and hearing/viewing the loons is a fantastic cap to the night. If I came during a warmer season the swimming spots would have been conveniently close to my tent with a small private beach area. It felt like I had the whole island to myself. Best camping trip I’ve ever had, their French pressed coffee is amazing btw. Highly recommend camping here if you have the opportunity, not many experiences can even compare.
Absolutely astonishing! Every aspect was better than expected, I only wish I had more time to stay. Drop dead gorgeous views, clean, very comfortable stay & the utmost hospitality! Highly recommend!!
my husband and i booked this site as a last minute trip just a day before our wedding, and it turned out to be the perfect mini honeymoon! we came at a beautiful time of year with the island’s foliage, it was very peaceful, and lots to do on the island even when it’s too cold to swim! we came with our dog and could tell that she also had a wonderful time taking in the tranquility and surroundings. we would definitely love to come back!
Where do I start! This was the first time that I've taken my dogs "camping" and hiking. Kent made recommendations for lunch in the area prior to my arrival, which was wonderful. He was quick to respond to any questions or with needed information. Kent greeted us warmly and, on the ferry ride spoke about the area and the island. Very interesting! He showed me the Loon and explained any instructions needed for my one night stay. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing. It was the perfect place to introduce my dogs to something new. My dogs added a little drama upon departure, and Kent was helpful and understanding. If you want to get away and detach, this is the place. My dogs were comfortable and enjoyed exploring. Next time, I want to try the canoe. Kent and Heather are wonderful hosts! <br/>Ask him how they got the camper on the island. Great story!
Had an amazing stay at the tent site at Loon Point. Fall was the perfect time - no mosquitos and a perfect breeze. The tent was plenty warm for colder nights and Kent was an ideal host (and ferry driver). Being able to watch sunrise and sunset from the 270 degree view at our tent site. They even left us a bowl and towel for our dog (which was helpful because she just wanted to swim all night and there’s nothing worse than wet dog in a tent).
If I could give this Airbnb more than 5 stars, I totally would! Kent does an amazing job and we had such a wonderful time! We brought our dogs and they loved swimming and walking the trails around the island. The tent was cozy and we weren't cold at all during the 40 degree weather at night. The boat ride to and from the island were also part of the fun experience. We will definitely be back!!
A wonderful stay and experience on the island! Looking forward to coming back again soon.
