The Oaktagon Tree House is what happens when you decide to live with the forest instead of just visiting it. Built around a living red oak (her name is Annie), this octagonal tree house invites you up into the canopy, where birds provide the soundtrack and the lake glimmers below. Perched on a 14-acre island just a half-mile from shore, it’s a place to slow down, look outward through leaves and branches, and remember what it feels like to be held by trees.

Kent is an AWESOME host and treated us so well! The island retreat was wonderful and had everything we could have needed! We wander the island, kayaked around it, relaxed in the hammock, and had an all-around superb time. Looking forward to returning in the future!
The place is gorgeous and was an awesome rustic getaway to be able to unplug. We really appreciated all the help that was provided and the warm attitude. Definitely a great place to stay.
Enjoyed a brief stay as a stopover on our way down the Coast. The Oaktagon House was clean and beautiful and enjoyed sipping my coffee on the deck at sunrise. Would like to come back for a longer stay if I’m ever in the area.
if i could give Kent’s island 6 stars i would! this place was unreal, the perfect getaway if you are looking to disconnect. Kent was extremely friendly, helpful, and available to make sure our stay was as good as it could be. kayaking around the island was a highlight!! will absolutely be back!
Such a special place! Two nights isn’t enough time—stay longer if you can. The treehouse is well appointed and prettier than the photos can convey. Kent is communicative and accommodating and warm. My curious little beagle had the best time. We’ll be back!
Super unique experience. Bring a book! A nice relaxing quiet place to take in the sounds of the birds and unwind. If you are used to sleeping with noise from a fan be sure to bring a battery operated sound machine otherwise the silence can make it difficult to sleep:) We brought river tubes and borrowed canoe paddles to float around the perimeter of the island. It was perfect. We will definitely return to try out the other places to stay on the island:)
The Tree House and island were exactly as advertised. We spent time kayaking, swimming, walking the trails, enjoying the fire pit, grilling, playing games, reading in the hammock, and tackling the rope swing (well, at least the two younger members of our group did!). Kent is very communicative without being overbearing-the perfect host.
The Oaktagon Treehouse was hands down one of the best summer lake vacations that we've had in recent times. Everything went smoothly and was incredibly simple. We're not much of a 'camping' family but I wanted to introduce my kids to being outdoors without all the extra stuff they have at home. They loved it more than I could of imagined ! The inside of the treehouse is so cool & really comfortable. Getting a chance to slow down and reconnect with each other & ourselves was so great. Some of the activities we did were canoeing, lots of fishing, walking on the trails, exploring everywhere, resting in hammocks, reading books, playing games, campfire suppers, swimming out the floating dock, etcetc.. And the hosts were so helpful with any questions or provisions we needed. We are definately going back possibly even again this summer.
Really cool! Some quotes from us, couple and 12-year-old boy with friend: Loved the rope swing. Quieter than a campground. Camping without many of the hassles. Awesome for friendly dogs. Great firewood. Best ever wood on a "camping" trip, just fires right up.
Kent, the host, is just fantastic. Will help with anything, teach you a few things, and work hard to make sure you have a good time.
If you're willing to do a little bit of work in support of keeping this island sustainable and quiet--i.e., you have a pump for a few minutes to get a shower, but the shower is hot and really nice--you'll have a blast! We went July 4 weekend and had great weather, and a lot of rain might be a challenge, but that's camping, right? We stayed in the Oaktagon. Loon Point looked like a really sweet spot (want to camp there), and the A-Frame was nice (we looked inside).
Two kids, 12 and 13, caught a total of 44 fish in two days, including some bass in the 6-pound range. Nearly caught a 30-inch pike, and losing it was a bummer because it is an invasive species and they wanted to feed it to the eagles. You almost assuredly will see bald eagles.
Don't be afraid of the rope swing. Just let go when you're out far.
Most amazing experience! Made some friends over rounds of mead, woke up early to see the great conjunction of the planets in all its glory, awesome campfire memories. Partner caught so many fish! First day out literally three casts, three fish. We loved sunset Rock! definitely looking forward to a future visit
