The Oaktagon Tree House is what happens when you decide to live with the forest instead of just visiting it. Built around a living red oak (her name is Annie), this octagonal tree house invites you up into the canopy, where birds provide the soundtrack and the lake glimmers below. Perched on a 14-acre island just a half-mile from shore, it’s a place to slow down, look outward through leaves and branches, and remember what it feels like to be held by trees.

read this! if you need a place to decompress connect with nature and
test out your self reliance, this is the perfect place to be.
watching amazing sunsets on the lake, being on a dog friendly island
and an amazing host that makes sure your stay goes as smooth as planned.
I've traveled many places this one is def the highlight of the year.
I will never forget this experience.
A friend and I spent 3 days on the island, lodging in the yurt. It is a great place for relaxing and escaping the world. We did some exploring, sat around the shore and enjoyed the view. In the evenings, we enjoyed the fire and spent a lot of time reading and playing games. It's a wonderful place to unplug from the busy world and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Kent was an awesome host. And I especially liked the island dogs, Shadow and Sky.
I almost shouldn’t give 5 stars for accuracy because pictures do not do this place justice. There are so many thoughtful details that went into the design of this yurt and the decor and wood stove make this place feel so homey. Our vacation to the Oaktagon Treehouse was nothing short of perfection, with the exception of the brown tail mouth rash that is only a risk for a short time in the spring. Even with the itching, we would face those caterpillars again to enjoy the luxury of this little island paradise and look forward to returning later in the year when they have turned to moths and flown away. Kent was a lovely host and quick to respond to any questions or needs we had. He was very interested in knowing what could be done to make the stay even better, but we really couldn’t think of anything. He has thought of everything to make this off-grid getaway a five star experience, and his passion for this little island shows. We are already planning our next trip to this amazing location.
quiet and peaceful.
excellent host.
can’t wait to go back!

You can't go wrong here. Unless you aren't looking for the coolest stay, complete serenity, and most gracious hosts ever!
We loved our stay on one big sustainable island! We went in November and the woodstove kept us nice and warm in the oaktagon. We lucked our and got the whole island to ourselves which was a real treat! Joanne and Kent do a great job with the island, thank you for our stay!
Staying on One Big Sustainable Island is an exceptional experience. Kent and Jo are excellent hosts who have built two beautiful and meaningful houses. We loved every minute of our stay and can’t wait to return.
Straight up a cool experience! Would not change a thing based on what my expectations were for a “off grid” evening. Escape to awareness and get ready to enjoy how fun it is to be with your environment. Accommodations at the Oaktagon are perfect, comfortable and provide all you need. Totally recommend to anyone in search of unplugging, a quiet night without distractions or a cool experience.
