We stayed in the Oaktagon for our 20th anniversary and were pleasantly surprised and delighted with the facilities. The rustic nature of having no power and no running water was countered by the comfortable Oaktagon and the fact that we had gas cooking equipment, a BBQ and a fire pit. The deck attached to the building was a big plus. Also, Joanne and Kent were great! Check in and check out were seamless, and the ability to use the island's kayaks and canoes was much appreciated. A very nice way to disconnect from the outside world (while still having cell service) and experience the wilderness of Maine! Would definitely stay again!

The Octagon Treehouse is a special place. It is beautiful, peaceful, quaint, and very well kept. My wife and 11-year-old son loved it a s well. Joanne and Kent are good people, accesible, and caring. We are looking forward to coming back.

Breathtaking location and truly accommodating and kindhearted hosts. We came in to the trip just hoping for some sun and water but were impressed immensely by the operation run by Jo and Kent. Their organization is only outweighed by their helpfulness. This property belongs in articles listing the “most unique Airbnb stays in America”. The home itself presents the exciting challenges and calm comforts of a life without distraction.

What a cool place! Think of this as a nature resort. You get your choice of several different homes - from a tent, to a large, 8-sided yurt built around a living oak. Everything is located on an island, in the middle of a gorgeous lake. If you have dogs who love running around outdoors, swimming and exploring, you owe it to them to visit. Let them run around the island and explore while you have tea on the deck or sit around the campfire. You can watch the sunrise from one side of the island, and then come to the opposite side later to catch the sunset. Or maybe grab one of the canoes and paddle out to the middle of the lake. So grab a cooler with your favorite food (There is no electricity on the island) and spend a week out in nature.

The Oaktagon was an exciting experience. The inside gave us the opportunity to truly be in touch with ourselves and the island on the outside was a beautiful and tranquil place to get away and enjoy nature. The ability to have access to the lake and have our doggo play with Kent and Jo's was amazing in so many ways. Thank you Kent and Jo for your hospitality and giving the world this incredible place.

Jo and Kent have created the most beautiful community with BSI! They’re incredibly hospitable, kind and quick to respond, always offering their services. The yurt was gorgeous and was the perfect balance of rustic and off the grid, without having to rough it too much - allowing for complete relaxation. The island is also on an amazing spot in the lake which allows for great swimming, kayaking, and sunsets! Can’t wait to go back!

My friend and I stayed in the oaktagon treehouse for four days. It was such a unique and wonderful experience. We enjoyed every moment of it, from sunrise to sunset, from canoeing in the beautiful Annabessacook lake to hiking around the one big island. Jo and Kent are so friendly and knowledgeable. They made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. We also had fun conversations about the history of the place and the sustainable lifestyle. This was a great getaway and an eye opening experience for us. Highly recommended!

Enjoy this very quiet escape on what will feel like your own private island. The Oaktagon home is a unique and spacious retreat with a cozy wood stove, a comfortable bed, a well provisioned kitchen area, and huge windows that look out on the morning sunrise. It’s a short walk down a sloping path to a nice dock and then on a few more steps to the rope swing tree. While on the island, you’ll have access to canoes and kayaks to explore all sights of Annabessacook Lake. Great family get-a-way! Highly recommend!

Visiting Joanne and Kent's magical island in the lake was like being welcomed by friends to a private retreat oasis. The Oaktagon treehouse was more beautiful than I anticipated and so peaceful and relaxing. Five days was not nearly a long enough time to be there! Early morning quiet with sun glinting through the trees and cool breezes wafting in the wall of windows, lounging in the indoor hammock with a book, walking the beautiful wilderness trails, swimming in the gorgeous lake waters, contemplating the sunset while perched on the island rocks, canoeing with the dog, grilling each meal and fireside s'mores in the evening - a perfect and glorious stay. It won't be long before a return visit to Joanne and Kent will be in order!
