The Oaktagon Tree House is what happens when you decide to live with the forest instead of just visiting it. Built around a living red oak (her name is Annie), this octagonal tree house invites you up into the canopy, where birds provide the soundtrack and the lake glimmers below. Perched on a 14-acre island just a half-mile from shore, it’s a place to slow down, look outward through leaves and branches, and remember what it feels like to be held by trees.

A really special place with a dedicated host. If you're looking to reconnect with nature, I highly recommend this stay.
Kent was the perfect host! Responsive, helpful, kind and knowledgeable! We had an amazing time!
The island was one of one, great experience, communication was great, very peaceful, very fun.
We had a wonderful stay at 1BSI. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt welcome and relaxed. Kent has thought of every last detail to make the sustainable stay comfortable and care-free. Some of the words our kids (9, 11, 14) used to describe our stay are: awesome, amazing, beautiful, innovative, educational, kindest people, safe, comfy, magical and really, really fun. My husband and I both felt so much peace and relaxation, and for all the fun the kids had they learned a lot from the creativity and craftsmanship all over the island, the history Kent shared, and about sustainable practices. We are very thankful for the experience!
Hi Kent and Heather,
Thank you so much for your warm welcome! We absolutely loved our stay on the island. We were pleasantly surprised by how few flies and mosquitoes there were during the day! Having access to the kayaks was such a treat—for our little Elliott and for our beautiful Alaska on her very first kayak adventure. We also really appreciated having our own dock—it was the perfect spot to enjoy both sunrise and sunset!
We truly loved your hospitality. Thank you again, and we wish you all the best!
Total ZEN trip!!!! Fantabulous time!!! Going AGAIN next year!!💯👌
This was an absolutely amazing stay. The treehouse was everything I imagined yet so much more! Kent made the experience so seamless and enjoyable. Everything you could possibly think of he has taken care of. I had a million questions and Kent answered every single one with no irritation or hesitation. Communication was great! We had a blast canoeing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. The treehouse has a beautiful deck and so many windows to enjoy the view and sounds of nature. I definitely want to come back next year. Thank you for a fantastic, fun-filled weekend!
My wife is handicapped and Kent (et all) went out of their way to make everything easy for both of us. The Oaktagon was perfect as she can't move around with ease and the deck was the answer!
Very happy with the stay and will return!
5 stars!!
1BSI is amazing - a cozy little treehouse on its own island surrounded by a beautiful lake. Our kids loved swimming, fishing, exploring the trails, and finding the secret rope swing.
Inside, the treehouse was clean and so well stocked. The hosts thought of every detail to make us feel welcome and completely taken care of - right down to toys, treats, a towel, and a water bowl for our dog. We even needed two extra cots, and Kent hopped in his boat and delivered them right to us. Truly above and beyond!
We had the best time and really appreciated how thoughtful and accommodating they were, from the extra cots to helping with all our bags and making everything so easy.
If you want a unique, relaxing getaway, and hosts who think of literally everything, you need to stay here!
It is a really nice place to disconnect.
Everything is as described, enjoy your coffee at the lake without any people around.
Everything is well thought and super organized.
