The Oaktagon Tree House is what happens when you decide to live with the forest instead of just visiting it. Built around a living red oak (her name is Annie), this octagonal tree house invites you up into the canopy, where birds provide the soundtrack and the lake glimmers below. Perched on a 14-acre island just a half-mile from shore, it’s a place to slow down, look outward through leaves and branches, and remember what it feels like to be held by trees.

We loved our stay in the Oaktagon. The wood stove kept us cozy and warm. The array of windows gave a lovely view of the forest canopy. It was very peaceful and quiet. It feels like Kent thought of everything; it all felt quite well prepared, well stocked, and very smooth. The island itself was amazing. Great trails, rocky beaches, and swimming spots. We were very impressed by what was clearly a labor of love!
Perfect place to relax and enjoy nature! We had our own private dock as well. They do everything in their power to make your stay as comfortable as can be. I will definitely be visiting again!!
We went for our 15 year anniversary and were absolutely blown away by 1bsi. The oaktagon was amazing. The view of the sunrise was beautiful. Was 100+ dog friendly. We got there late for checkin and they met us as we pulled in and took us over to the island without hesitation. We were extremely impressed with the operation and the eco friendly approach. We are already about to book next years anniversary week. And the beautiful oak tree the place surrounds has some great stories to tell if you listen enough
We had such a wonderful time staying in the Oaktagon! It was so peaceful and quiet, we will definitely be back. Communication was great, Kent was very responsive and made us feel right at home.
This island stay was everything I hoped for and more. Kent does an amazing job taking care of the islands and his guests. I will certainly be coming back again!<br/>The included solar lights aren’t always charged up super bright, so my only recommendation might be to bring some extra lights along if you’d like more indoor lighting at night. We brought our own string lights with a battery and it made the place bright and cozy.
The place was great and secluded. Kent and Heather were amazing hosts
What a wonderful oasis Kent has created! There are so many sweet spots to hang out in and just chill surrounded by the most beautiful nature. We enjoyed the canoe, kayaks, rope swing, fishing, the sunset trail, and a warm fire on one of the cold wet days. Kent and Heather are so accommodating without being intrusive at all. They are truly super hosts and this place is so cool. We will be back. We'd like to try out all the other amazing structures on the island as well! Thanks Kent and Heather!
We greatly enjoyed our stay on One Big Sustainable Island at the Oaktagon Tree House. From the start, Kent and Heather were welcoming and clear with directions and what to expect. The tree house was well prepped and offered great "glamping" amenities. The Island itself was fun to explore and the lake offers a lovely and peaceful setting. A big thanks to the team - we look forward to returning!
Stayed in the Oaktagon with my 3 teenage kids and it was magical. Kent and his partner made sure we had everything we needed for our stay.We enjoyed the islands peaceful atmosphere and activities like canoeing, swimming and jumping from the rope swing. Thank you for sharing this amazing place with us!
The folks at 1BSI have thought of everything! It was so easy to enjoy being off grid with the many ingenious and creative ways they have designed and implemented comfort measures everywhere (solar and battery powered solutions, compost toilets, a hot showah, etc.). We thoroughly enjoyed the boats and hammocks on offer as well as the unlimited firewood. We are very much looking forward to returning again and again to explore the varied lodging options on the sweetest little island in Maine. Thank you to Kent and crew! It was a true delight to adventure on 1BSI!
